What’s this website all about?
For a long time I have been wanting to create a website, but never had the time and motivation to do so. Now, that I’m spending a year abroad in Africa, I thought this would be a good reason to start a website. This website’s purpose is to keep people up-to-date with what I’m up to in Gabon/Africa.
Why www.dr-d.de?
To cut a long story short: The domain dr-d.de was a gift from my brother. Some of my Nuremberg friends started calling me Dr. D. once I had started studying medicine. It stands for Dr. D(aniel). I don’t really like it, but anyway that’s how the website ended up being called Dr. D. ;-)
Why is all this in English, aren’t you German?
There are a couple of reasons for writing a lot of this website in English. Here is a small list:
- I have quite some friends who don’t know any German
(but almost all Germans, I know, know English) - I like English as a language
- the main language on the web is English
- some elements I’m using on this website like widgets, plugins, scripts are only available in English
- I don’t like to mix languages (unfortunately that’s what I ended up with: the blog entries are in German, everything else is in English)
So now that we got all that out of the way: Who are you anyway?
(only for the people who don’t know me)
I’m not going to start a huge introductory rant about who I am because most people viewing this website know me. But for those who don’t, here is a brief introduction:
My name is Daniel Sippel. I was born in Nuremberg/Germany. I’m a medical student at the University of Tuebingen/Germany. Right now I’m spending a year abroad studying medicine at Libreville/Gabon.
